"And by virtue of the power and for the purpose aforesaid, I do order and declare that all persons held as slaves
within said designated States and parts of States are, and henceforward shall be, free; and that the Executive Government of the United States, including the military and naval authorities thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of said persons." -Abraham Lincoln This site was developed as part of an Advanced Writing course with Texas A & M University-Commerce. This site briefly explores the integration of the university, then named, East Texas State Teachers College. Also included on this site is some information about the Civil Rights movement and my own personal discovery while searching through the digital archives collections of the James G. Gee library. I hope you enjoy what you see and I hope that you learn something new about our Northeast Texas history.
